I believe there are valuable network marketing skills every network marketer needs to develop in order to build a successful network marketing business.
In every industry, there are specialized skills that one must learn and develop to become successful, and the network marketing industry is not an exception.
I have studied a lot of successful people in our industry and one thing I have noticed about them is this; even though they all have different religions, personalities, and values, they have some major things in common.
One of the primary things they have in common is that they take their personal development very seriously.
Most successful network marketers are hungry for knowledge. They always want to learn new skills and gain new knowledge.
Every single day, they want to get better and learn something new that will increase their value in the marketplace.
They read books, listen to an audio, watch videos, attend events, and they pay for mentoring and coaching.
The reason why they do these things is that they want to work on their skills and become the best at what they do.
In this post, I am going to share with you the most important network marketing skills that the successful network marketers are always working. This list is in no particular order so here we go…
#1. Goal setting
You cannot hit a target you did not target.
Every successful person has clear, written down goals and they focus on doing the activities that will help them crush their goals every single day.
You must learn how to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time Bound) goals in life and in business.
These goals include short-term like daily/weekly, monthly, one year and three years and long-term like 5 years and 10 years.
When you break down your goals into smaller pieces and start crushing them in bits, it builds momentum and moves you closer to your bigger goals.
Having goals is not just enough, you need to have them written down on paper and you should read them every single day.
You should also get someone to share your goals with and that person should be your accountability partner.
This could be your upline, your cross-line, a team member or your sponsor. You can also make someone else not in your company your accountability partner, but make sure it is someone who can look you in the face and kick you by the butt to get into action.
#2. Lead Generation
This skill is a million dollar skill.
Many people join our industry and they never invest their time and money to learn how to generate leads.
If you don’t want to remain an average network marketer, you must invest your time and money to learn about lead generation.
Buy books, pay for coaching programs, attend seminars and webinars.
Once you learn and master how to generate an endless flow of leads for your business, you will never run out of people to talk to about your business.
Inviting is another important network marketing skill you need to develop as a network marketer.
You need to learn the right way to invite people to a presentation, webinar or event.
Your job is to get as many people as possible to an event.
Network marketing is a numbers game, the more people you invite, the more chances you stand of sponsoring a new distributor.
All successful people in network marketing are leaders.
Therefore, if you want to build a successful network marketing business, you must step up and become a leader that people want to work with.
You don’t need to have results to become a leader, you need to become a leader to have results.
A good leader is someone who has a vision and purpose and truly understands where they are going.
They always share their ideas with people, respect others and are able to influence their followers.
Remember that people join people and not companies.
If you want people to join YOU, YOU must become that leader that people want to work with.
But how do you become a leader?
Be focused on helping others and adding value to their lives. Always leave people better than you met them.
Don’t be stingy with information, when you learn something new share it with others.
The notes you take during your personal development is not for you to keep, you need to turn those note into contents and share with others either on social media or on your blog.
As you keep doing that, you will be helping people get better results in their life and business. That will keep building the know, like and trust factor, and when they need what you have to offer they will remember you.
Take consistent action. Whatever you do people are always watching. When people see that you are determined and focused on achieving your dreams, they will see you as someone they will want to work with because of the belief you have in what you are doing.
Nobody wants to work with a loser.
Focus on your vision and share it with others.
By every means you should lead by example because you will only attract what you are.
Presenting is a very vital network marketing skill that will contribute greatly to the success of your network marketing business.
You must be able to present your opportunity to your prospect effectively.
If you find it difficult to speak before a large audience, you can always start by doing one-on-one presentations with family members and friends.
This will boost your confidence level.
You can also take a public speaking class or read books on public speaking.
One mistake most people make during their presentation is that they talk too much and listen very little.
You must learn how to talk less and listen more to your prospects.
Be genuinely interested in what the prospect will benefit and not the features of your business opportunity.
You can be good with all the network marketing skills but if you suck at this one, your business will suffer.
You must develop the skill of closing your prospect effectively and getting them started the right way.
Most people blow things off at this stage because they do not know how to ask the prospect the right questions after the presentation.
You need to learn how to close professionally and help your prospect get started as soon as possible.
Find out if they have any questions immediately after their first exposure to the business, whether you invited them for a meeting or you used a third-party tool.
Learn to ask them the right questions such as:
What do you like about the business?
On a scale of 1-10, how ready are you to get started?
It seems like you are ready to get started, who are the people you know that might be interested in this opportunity?
Questions like these help you to prevent the prospect of raising objections.
You don’t need to use those questions the way I have written them. Just put them in your own words.
Whether you are building a network marketing business or not, one skill you need to work on to move your business forward is marketing.
If you are building a business, you must know who you want to serve in the marketplace and how you intend to get your business in front of those people.
How do you intend to advertise and get leads?
Many people start a network marketing business without any proper marketing structure.
That is what I call ‘’wish marketing’’ because they just believe that somehow they will get lucky and succeed.
You need to identify your marketing strength and focus on developing it.
Learn how to make people know, like and trust you.
You must learn how to persuade them and also close them effectively.
We all can improve on this skill by reading books, attending marketing events, learning how to acquire customers and how to close sales.
If you have the inability to close sales, you will find it difficult to make money in your business.
This is my list of top 7 network marketing skills you need to develop.
Now I want to hear from you too, which skill do you think is the most important on this list?
